Material Requirements Planning - overview

To avoid a situation where parts are missing
Material requirements planning (MRP) is a system used to avoid situations where parts are missing. It establishes a schedule (priority plan) showing the components required at each level of the assembly and, based on lead times, calculates the time when these components will be needed.
This short course gives an introduction to material requirements planning; having the right material available when it is needed and not before.
Objectives:
This course aims to provide insights into how to work with material requirements planning based on different time horizons, product structures and inventory levels.
Level:
Supplementary, you should have worked in the area for some time.

There are two types of demand, independent and dependent.
Bill of Materials
The bill of material shows all the parts required to make one of the products.
Detailed Material Planning Options
The use of detailed material planning approaches depends importantly on the design characteristics of the production process.
Time-Phased Planning
Time-phased planning for individual components is carried out with material requirements planning approaches.
Exploding and Offsetting
This is the process of multiplying the requirements by the usage quantity and then placing them in their proper period based on lead time.
Gross and Net Requirements
Calculating quantities to be produced or purchased.
Releasing Orders
Authorization to buy or to make the required components needed in the material requirement planning.
